Hope everyone is doing well. A few reminders for folks:

• WCO and Trapping Reports need to be submitted to Fish and Game in order to purchase your 2026/2027 trapping license.
• Maine Rendezvous at Neils August 13 – 15.
• NHTA Rendezvous August 22.
• Be sure to get your permits signed.

I wanted to share how I maintain my Bridger #5 beaver traps in the summer months in order to keep them in good working order for the upcoming season. Over the years I have tried using dips, dyes, and painting.

• Slightly used traps – repaint with inexpensive flat black spray paint. One can of paint will cover 4 traps.
• Well used traps that are scaly and rusty – soak the trap in white vinegar for one week. Remove the trap and clean it with a pressure washer. Let dry completely and then repaint.
• Remove trap tags and soak in white vinegar for 4 or 5 days. Wipe tags with a paper towel and reattach to each trap. Trap tags must be legible.
• Submersion rods, cables, and chains also need maintenance each year. Check for kinks in the cables and repaint the rods and chains.

In the coming months, it is time to start scouting for the animals you plan to trap in the fall.
